Tunnel bored on India’s Himalayan super-highway

A breakthrough is predicted at present on the 4.5km-long Silkyara Bend-Barkot street tunnel within the Himalayan mountains within the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand as excavation groups meet within the center.

The tunnel is a part of the 889km Char Dam Nationwide Freeway venture prime minister Narendra Modi launched in December 2016.

Connecting 4 historic Himalayan pilgrimages, the street is designed to be 10m huge, with double lanes and paved shoulders.

The tunnel venture made headlines in November 2023 when a ceiling collapse trapped 40 employees contained in the tunnel for 17 days, experiences Occasions of India.
