South Korea’s railway operator, Korea Nationwide Railway (KNR), has agreed to advise the corporate behind Poland’s nationwide transportation improve – Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) – on high-speed rail.

CPK will reformat transportation in Poland with a brand new worldwide airport, freeway upgrades, and a pair of,000km of high-speed rail.

It goals to make all main Polish cities not more than 2.5 hours’ journey time away from the brand new airport, to be sited some 50km west of Warsaw.

KNR has constructed and now manages 657km of high-speed rail traces in South Korea.

The settlement signed on Monday by CPK chief government Dr Filip Czernicki and KNR president Seong-Hai Lee commits them to exchanging information and experience.

It’s the most recent occasion of Polish-Korean cooperation on transport.

In 2021, CPK signed an advisory settlement with the operator of Incheon Airport, one of many world’s largest worldwide hubs.

In mid-2023 a Korean consortium led by Korea Nationwide Railway and Dohwa Engineering received the contract to design a 70km part of the high-speed railway connecting Katowice to Poland’s southern border.

Tunnels, switches and diagnostics

CPK mentioned KNR would advise on sustaining tunnels and turnouts, or switches, and railway diagnostics.

Czernicki mentioned CPK aimed “to profit as a lot as doable from their experience”.

Final month, CPK awarded a contract price round €412m to a consortium led by Austria’s Porr Group to construct a high-speed rail tunnel beneath Łódź (see additional studying).

The tunnel will carry high-speed Line 85, a Y-shaped route connecting Warsaw and the brand new airport with Łódź by 2032.

The road will run west from Łódź to Sieradz, from the place it splits to go northwest to Poznań and southwest to Wrocław, forming the Y form.

It’s scheduled for completion in 2035.
