CSCEC, Siemens picked to restore Iraq’s 1.6GW gas power plant

Iraq has chosen a group of China State Development Engineering Company (CSCEC) and Siemens to rehabilitate unit two of the Baiji gasoline energy station.

The 1.6GW energy station in Salahuddin province was a serious provider of electrical energy in Iraq earlier than it was put out of motion after being captured by Islamic State in 2014.

Unit two had an output of 1GW and solely entered service in 2014.

Amongst different issues, the plant powered Iraq’s largest refinery, pictured, and a big cement works. 

CSCEC will act as the primary contractor, and also will finance the work. 

Siemens will provide the primary gear such because the generators, transformers and management centres, and CSCEC will present auxiliary parts, similar to fireplace safety, pipes and civil works.

Iraq’s Council of Ministers put a $1.3bn rehabilitation scheme in place in 2019, and signed a cope with Siemens and the Egyptian contractor Orascom in September of that yr.
